BROWNIE’S DOG PARK
In 1940, a large brown stray dog named Brownie wandered into the Daytona Cab Company and quickly became a beloved local figure, cared for by owner Ed Budgen and his drivers. Known for his sweet temperament, Brownie charmed residents and tourists alike, eventually gaining national attention. When he passed away in 1954, the community honored him with a funeral attended by 75 people and a eulogy from the mayor. Today, Brownie’s legacy lives on through Brownie’s Dog Park, named in his honor, with a mosaic at the park’s entrance and his statue and burial site is on the south side of the Esplanade.
